Low Diastolic Blood Pressure

Blood is the liquid of life for the human body. Its circulation is what keeps the organs well and functioning inside the body and any upset in this flow can cause problems for people. The blood circulates in the body with the help of the heart and flows from the arteries, through the organs and into the veins. Blood pressure is the reading of the pressure of blood on the walls of the arteries.

Low Diastolic Blood Pressure

Blood pressure is defined by two measurements levels. The first level points to the systolic and the other points to the diastolic level. Systolic is defined as the amount of pressure that your heart generates while pumping blood through arteries to the rest of the body. Diastolic pressure is the reading of the amount of pressure in your arteries when the heart is at rest between beats.

Checking blood pressure regularly is very important for health. It is not very difficult to check pressure. There are blood pressure monitors and digital cuffs available in the market and give an accurate reading. A normal blood pressure reading is 120/80 mm Hg or less. If the blood pressure is at 140/90 mm Hg, then you have high blood pressure. Low blood pressure is also a possibility and should be treated quickly as it increases the risk of cardiovascular problems.

However, sometimes only the diastolic level is low. This can result due to inefficient coronary blood flow, stiffness of the large arteries and deteriorating health.

It is important to remember that normal reading of blood pressure is a very subjective term. It can vary from person to person. What is low for one individual can be normal for another. The thing to note when deciding if blood pressure is normal or not is to measure the extent of the change in a person’s blood pressure level. If blood pressure falls or increases 20 mm Hg, then this should be considered as abnormal and a doctor should be visited. Those who have blood pressure problems should monitor their levels regularly.
