High blood is indicated by headache and dizziness. If you are at home and you experience these symptoms, then you need to employ emergency home treatment which can be effective in lowering sudden increases in blood pressure within minutes.

If you are feeling an increase in your blood pressure, then stop whatever you are doing and take a breath for some while or until you do not feel dizzy or a headache. Sudden elevations in blood pressure can result from too much activity or movements. So whether you are exercising or just doing your daily chores, you need to stop and take rest.

Blood pressure can also increase when you are under stress or anxious. If this is the cause of your hypertension, then it is better to lie down or sit somewhere quiet and take slow, deep, calming breaths. Repeat the process until you feel better.

Besides taking these steps to control sudden surges in blood pressure at home, you can also take your hypertension medicine but only in the case if you have been prescribed one. Do not take any medicines on your own. A safer thing to do is to visit a doctor as soon as you feel well and report your symptoms.

You should also take care of your diet if you are prone to high blood pressure. Avoid sodium enriched foods like processed or pre-packaged foods. This means that you can no more hoard salty chips at home and no more visits to fast food restaurants. This is because sodium can worsen or bring on hypertension and impede your efforts to reduce blood pressure.

Another way to instantaneously reduce blood pressure is by sucking on a lemon. Take a whole lemon and cut it into 4 halves and suck on two of the halves. After waiting for 6-7 minutes, eat either one of these things which are rich in potassium: 2-3 bananas (1188 mg), a cup of raisins (1089 mg), 2 cups of orange juice (992 mg), 10 halves of dried apricots (407 mg), dried prunes (878 mg) or a cantaloupe (494 mg). If you are not fond of fruit, then you can get the necessary potassium from vegetable sources like a plain baked potato (1081 mg), tomato soup or fresh tomato (909 mg), lima beans (955 mg) or winter squash (896 mg).

In order to help in the process of lowering blood pressure or in the relief of its symptoms, you can also eat a piece of whole wheat bread.
