Blood pressure has a daily (diurnal) pattern like many body functions, . During the night, blood pressure decreases as we sleep, and continues to remain at lower values when the individual in question wakes up. However, as soon as he/she moves his/her body for the first time after waking up, a spike in blood pressure may be seen, which continues to gradually raise over the course of the day, ultimately peaking out at some point in time around high noon. Then, as the afternoon passes by and evening nears, the blood pressure of the body starts to fall once again.

How Often you Need to Check Your Blood Pressure
This is very common question that my patients always ask me. Normally teen agers dont go for their blood pressure check routinely, often they ignore their sickness and dont go to doctor for blood pressure checkup. If you are not a patient of high blood pressure, you should have your blood pressure check at very early age of 10-13 atleast. If found normal, then check BP at 18 years of age. Then at 25 and if you are still normal, in thirties have your BP checked once after two years. In 40’s go for your BP check every year.

Age
Through early middle age, high blood pressure is more common in men. Women are more likely to develop high blood pressure after menopause. This is due to range of things that change as we age. One of the most important is that our arteries become less flexible with age. This means that they cannot expand so easily, so it is like forcing the same volume of fluid through a narrower pipe. This results in an increase in pressure.
